Paint the whole world with a rainbow
June 14, 2006 on 12:05 pm | In Home sweet home |Due to the imminent arrival of a heating engineer (aka plumber) to hook-up our central heating, and the need to paint behind the radiators before they’re hung on the walls, the past week has seen myself and Paula choosing the colours for seven of the rooms in the house.
For some reason, I found this particularly difficult.
Not only do you have to think about how the colour will match the furniture and floor in each room — most of which hasn’t been bought yet, by the way – but you also have to try to envisage how the colour will look based upon a teeny-tiny coloured square from a swatch or brochure. Of course, the two colours (paint and brochure) usually bear little relation to each other, mainly due to the fact that the perception of a colour is based in part on the other colours around it. So unless your walls are already white, the colour ain’t gonna look the same on your wall as it does in the brochure, no sir!
The lounge colour is the main bone of contention at the moment. Paula reckons it’s too dark, I think it’ll be okay. Trouble is, we won’t be able to tell for sure until the room’s all been painted, the furniture is in and the carpet down. At which point, it’s kind of too late to change our minds…
